The Chemstress Electrical Department provides engineering design support for manufacturing and process related projects. Electrical services range from initial conceptual design and preliminary estimating to construction supervision, project control and estimating. Services also include surveys of existing plant power systems to assess their availability to handle proposed electrical loads related to new building and process equipment.
Chemstress has extensive experience with power and control systems for High Hazard Area Classifications and potentially explosive occupancies. Chemstress also has a broad in-depth history of successful design of industrial, manufacturing and process and corporate office buildings.
Services
Preliminary Electrical Engineering
The Electrical department works closely with the client and related engineering departments to develop estimated electrical loads for new process and manufacturing facilities. Related services involve specification of main substations, transformers, and preliminary power distribution systems. Chemstress is experienced with conceptual high efficiency lighting designs for manufacturing, process, facility, lab and office systems.
Preliminary engineering serves as the basis for conceptual one-line diagrams, power plans and construction estimates. The preliminary design phase is generally used for establishment of overall electrical project construction budgets.
Short Circuit & Arc Flash Power Systems Studies
Chemstress has extensive experience with Short Circuit / Coordination and Arc Flash Studies.
Electrical Short Circuit Study
Examines the interrupting ratings of the various protective devices to make sure they can satisfactorily interrupt the maximum fault current to which they might be subjected. These requirements are as specified by the National Electric Code®*, the American National Standards Institute, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Underwriters’ Laboratories (where standards apply).
Arc Flash Hazard Report
Based on NFPA 70E®**, identifies the estimated Arc Flash boundary about the equipment and the required clothing class at three (3) working distances from the equipment.
Detailed Engineering Design
The Electrical department is responsible for power distribution and control design development. This includes detailed engineering drawings, construction and equipment specifications.
Design services include outdoor substation plans, main switch rooms, power plans, conduit layouts and installation details. The design includes schematics, interconnection diagrams, and bills of material for MCC’s, drive systems, control and operating panels.
Service includes high efficiency industrial and office lighting system designs. Designs must meet local and state building and electrical codes, and national design standards such as NEC®***, ANSI®****, NFPA®***** and OSHA®******.
Electrical Estimating
The Electrical department is responsible for construction estimates related to the design output. Chemstress uses a proprietary database program to produce the detail work items of the project. In addition, national standard cost data sources and information from construction company subcontractors are used. The estimating database allows Chemstress to use costs from similar projects that we have estimated in the past.
Construction Support
Includes client representation for project bid meetings, bid evaluations, alternate equipment / material evaluation, construction supervision, site inspections, and punch list preparation.
